Opportunities for your child to get involved
Boot Camp/Morning Move
Preparing students for learning is what Park Brook's Focus on Fitness is all about! Throughout the school year, there are several opportunities for students to come together for an extra dose of exercise. Sessions of Boot Camp and Morning Move typically run for four to five weeks at a time, and the first session of Boot Camp culminates in students running the Twin Cities 5K in October.
Bucket Drumming
Bucket Drumming is the latest activity to be added to Park Brook's Focus on Fitness. This lively class creates quite the workout as students master routines with drumsticks, stability balls, and five-gallon buckets. You will be amazed to see their performances!
District 279 Children's Chorus
For more than 50 years, the District 279 Children's Chorus has provided a high quality vocal music experience for elementary students, as well as extraordinary performances for the community. District 279 Chorus members demonstrate high vocal music skills relative to others of their age, experience or environment.
The chorus has approximately 100 members representing all of the elementary schools in our district. Every fall, students in grades 4 and 5 may audition to join the chorus.
Double Dutch Team
Fourth and fifth grade students at Park Brook Elementary can try out for the Double Dutch Team. Students practice twice per week before school. This team is sponsored by the American Heart Association and travels to other schools to kick-off the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser.
Fifth Grade Band & Orchestra
Students in fifth grade can participate in the school band or orchestra. Lessons begin in October each year and students are expected to practice 4-5 times per week on their own.
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is an after-school program that combines running, character education and leadership development for girls. This opportunity is open to all Park Brook girls in grades 3-5. The fall and spring seasons culminate with the Girls on the Run Twin Cities 5K.
Language Clubs
Park Brook Elementary staff encourage students to maintain and practice their home languages! Our Language Clubs are offered after school once a week as a space for students across grade levels who share common languages to connect with each other. Language Clubs also participate in after-school field trips several times throughout the year, and a highlight is an evening trip to Wirth Park that includes a hike in language-specific groups, dinner, and time around a campfire making s'mores.
Park Brook Choir
Students in grades 4 and 5 can participate in the Park Brook Choir. The choir rehearses after school and performs at school and other venues.
Siblings' Club
Siblings of students in the Park Brook Choir are welcome to join the Siblings’ Club. This activity meets during rehearsals after school, providing activities that expand experiences for students involved. This club will not necessarily meet during choir performances that extend beyond the regularly scheduled rehearsal times; families are responsible for providing supervision for younger siblings when the choir performs.
Weekend Field Trips
Open House is a great opportunity to register for the Twin Cities 5K, sponsored by Twin Cities in Motion! The Twin Cities 5K is the first weekend field trip of the year, which is followed by a fitness field trip about once a month as the school year continues. We encourage students to join us as we travel to events sponsored by Twin Cities in Motion, CycleHealth - YMCA and The Loppet Foundation.
Wellness Committee
Park Brook scholars in fourth and fifth grade can join the Wellness Committee, which is responsible for moving forward the school's wellness initiative. This committee meets one time each month before school. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to join this committee!
Winter Funland
Winter Funland is an opportunity for our community to come together to learn more about healthy choices that is made possible by a generous grant from Allina Health. It's much more than a health fair! At this fun event, the school is filled with active games and activities for students, such as obstacle courses, Ping-Pong, a climbing wall, and more.
Woodworking
Each classroom has the opportunity throughout the year to participate in a woodworking class. Students are guided through a project and learn how to measure, use tools like a saw and hammer, and more.
