All About Kindergarten

• Talk about colors and shape. When enjoying a walk, talk about the colors and shapes of flowers, signs and anything else you see. 
• Have fun counting. Count when cooking, as you walk up the stairs, and when you see things throughout your day.
• Talk about letters and how to spell your child's name.
• Have your child practice zipping, tying their shoes and fastening buttons.
• Encourage your child to chew their food with their mouth closed, not to speak with food in their mouth, and not too put too much food in their mouth at one time.
• Be sure your child can use the restroom on their own.

1. Enjoy reading to your child.
2. Enjoy eating together without the television or cell phones on.
3. Be sure your child gets 9 to 11 hours of sleep each night, and keep televisions and other electronic devices out of their room.
4. Be sure your child gets at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day! The more you can encourage playing outside, the better.

Strengthen your child's hands for writing, cutting and coloring in kindergarten! Here are some ideas:

• Encourage your child to have fun coloring and drawing
• Play outside on the equipment in a park
• Play with Legos, Play-Doh, toy cars and other small items that require the use of hands
