Peek into our staff workshop day: Tuesday, Nov. 3

We hope families enjoy the day off school on Tuesday, Nov. 3! While our students are out of the building, our staff will be participating in a personal development day. Here's a peek into what we'll be discussing:

Staff at Park Brook have been working to increase our own personal understanding of equity, and the lived experience of individuals of color both in our community and across our nation. During this workshop day, one of the learning sessions will focus on the unacceptable disparities in health and health care that Black individuals face compared to white individuals in our country.  While we are fully aware of the academic achievement gap and we are working to close it at Park Brook, we also work to understand where these disparities appear not just in education, but across the many spectrums of our society.

At Park Brook we want students to know and feel that the school is theirs, not just a place where they attend.  We also want to be a part of preparing our students for their future and for their dreams.  At the same time, we need to be aware of the challenges our students of color face in societ, and be prepared to do our part to be a voice for change.

Staff will also be reviewing academic data and instructional strategies with the purpose of increasing academic growth and addressing the needs of our students.

If you have questions, would like to have a conversation regarding the staff development opportunity, or would like to see the articles that staff are reading, please feel welcome to reach out to Principal Taylor.
